Self-drive hire insurance provides coverage for vehicles rented by individuals or businesses for their own use. It typically includes protection against damage, theft, and liability while the vehicle is being used under the rental agreement. This insurance ensures peace of mind for both the renter and the rental company during the rental period.
An insurer’s preferred minimum of 10 vehicles is required to quote or minimum of 5 vehicles with a confirmed claims experience.
A Confirmed Claims Experience (CCE) is essential for quoting on existing SDH risks. A 3-year or 5-year picture from your current insurer/broker would be ideal to allow insurers to get the full picture of your claims history. We would require at least a 1-year minimum claims experience. Details of the vehicles within your existing fleet, current premiums and coverages are also essential to ensure we quote on a like-for-like basis.
For existing self-drive hire operators, premiums will vary depending on a multitude of factors, including your current insurer's pricing, your claims performance and location. For new ventures, we’re seeing minimum total premiums of £20,000* + IPT (insurance premium tax, levied at 12%)

'Off-hire protection' refers to insurance for your rental vehicles when they're not currently in use, such as when driven by a specified driver or parked at your location. This coverage is included automatically at no extra expense.
While that is always an option, NFP understands that this payment method isn’t always viable for new startups. Therefore, we have access to a panel of reputable and leading third-party finance providers, allowing you to pay the annual premium off over 10, separate monthly instalments at competitive finance rates.
