Client Profile

Triode Newhill Management Services operates a large group of over 100 BWG retail stores on a franchised basis.

The Challenge

Triode Newhill Management Services is committed to a progressive and proactive approach to safety risk management and wanted to improve safety compliance and safe behaviours across their large retail estate. In addition to improving general safety compliance, Triode Newhill Management Services wanted to increase staff safety awareness across the group, while reducing the likelihood of accidents and claims in the future. The group knew that to achieve this, they needed to focus on improving safety culture and safety behaviour, not just compliance. Triode Newhill Management Services was seeking a non-traditional, proactive risk management approach to achieve its goals.

The Solution

On a word-of-mouth recommendation BWG’s operations director, David Bagnall, contacted SeaChange. After determining the client requirements, SeaChange provided Triode Newhill Management Services with their Safety Culture Pro Partnership.

Each site within the group received a site-specific risk assessment, key safety compliance, a visual risk awareness system, and champion training to help lead safety culture onsite. The partnership also included access to the SeaChange client portal to log proactive safety KPIs on a routine basis, report on safety performance, and improve defensibility in the event of an accident. Each site receives the SeaChange Safety Culture (SABRE©) Audit annually to benchmark performance and to continuously improve safety management.

“As a result of the behavioural-based safety partnership, the Triode Newhill Retail Group has experienced a significant improvement in employee engagement, housekeeping and productivity.”

The Result

Both staff and management across the large retail group have engaged with the interactive SeaChange System and Partnership, leading to significant, sustainable safety results.

Within two years of partnering with SeaChange, accident frequency reduced by 42% within the Triode Newhill Retail Group. Employer liability slip, trip and fall claims, manual handling claims and public liability claims have been reduced year on year, and the cost of claims has been reduced by 40% since implementing the SeaChange approach. As a result of increasing safety performance group-wide, insurance premiums have also been reduced by 7%, offering a significant return on investing in safety best practices.

The Triode Newhill Management Services Group has separated itself from the herd by investing in a safety culture partnership that targets the main risk factors in the retail sector. They are leading the way in the retail space and reaping the rewards as a result in terms of increased staff awareness, increased defensibility, reduced accidents, and significantly reduced insurance premium rates.

“We introduced the SeaChange Safety Culture Pro Partnership to our flagship Triode Newhill Retail Group of over 100 retail stores in order to improve Safety Standards and Safety Behaviours in 2012, and we haven’t looked back since. The effectiveness of the SeaChange partnership and visual risk awareness system has enabled us to reduce the frequency and cost of accidents and associated claims, and secure highly competitive rates from our insurance partners“.
